First International Conference on Organic Food Quality and Health Research
On behalf of the Food Quality and Health Association (FQH, The Netherlands), the Institute of Chemical Technology, Prague (ICT Prague, Czech Republic) and the Technology Platform Organics (TPOrganics) we would like to invite all researchers in the field of organic food quality and health research, representatives of national and international agencies, control bodies and industries to attend the First International Conference on Organic Food Quality and Health Research.

The driving forces in development of Czech organic farming (OF)
are: subsidies paid within agroenvironmental measures, the interest
of traders in organic raw materials and development of
the Czech organic market. The Czech Republic has a sufficient
number of experts in organic plant and animal production and
organic food processing and marketing. Consultancy and education
are also well developed. There are accredited advisory,
inspection and certification organizations.

The total acreage of organically farmed land at 31. 12. 2009 had increased to 398,407 ha, which represents 9,38 % of total agricultural land in CZ. Acreage under conversion had reached 26 % (i.e. 103,964 ha). This means the biggest yearly increase in the whole history of OF development (i.e. an increase of 56,775 ha).

The Czech Technology Platform for Organic Agriculture
The Czech Technology Platform for Organic Agriculture (CTPOA) was founded with the aim of uniting and linking a wide range of people and companies active in the field of organic farming and organic food production. With the signature of a contract on 22nd Sept 2009 in Jihlava, all founding members declared their common aim to build and ensure the development of the system of knowledge in the area of OA and organic food production with emphasis on knowledge transfer across all key areas of the sector.
Foundation of FiBL International 
Bioinstitut is one of the founders of FiBL International - International Association of Organic Agriculture Research Institutes - was founded on February 19, 2010 at BioFach in Nürnberg, Germany.
The purpose of the association is the advancement of science and research.The implemented objectives will particularly focus on the advancement of science and research in the field of organic agriculture and organic aquaculture taking into account ecological and socio-economic aspects as well as considerations to human and animal health.
European Strategic Research Agenda for organic food and farming
The TP Organics Strategic Research Agenda presents a comprehensive overview of the research and development priorities for organic food and farming. It is expected that this will contribute to ensuring the sustainability and competitiveness of European organic agriculture and food systems.
- Part I provides background to Technology Platforms and the organic sector.
- Part II provides the detailed research goals under cross-cutting and thematic headings.
Organic Farmers for Nature: Wildlife-Friendly Organic Production
A Joint Project of FiBL Switzerland, FiBL Austria and
Bioinstitut Czech Republic
PROJECT REPORT 2006-2009
In 2006 Bioinstitut joined the international project “Diversity Blossoms on Organic
Farms– Wildlife-Friendly Organic Production”, the aim of which is the conservation of
the species-rich countryside and landscape on the level of organic farms. Throughout
its duration the project was well received by farmers, for whom it was primarily intended,
by government bodies and by the general public. It thus became one of the main
projects of Bioinstitut.

BACKGROUND, ASSESSMENT, INTERPRETATION 
Edited and published by IFOAM EU GROUP
Publication is divided into three major parts:
1. a summary of the history of organic regulations and of the political processes involved in developing
the new organic regulation
2. an overview of the new organic regulation by the EU Commission and a general assessment by the sector
3. more detailed interpretation of the regulation, with a range of authors highlighting different aspects.

9th EUROPEAN SUMMER ACADEMY ON ORGANIC FARMING
"Organic Farming - A Response to Economic and Environmental Challenges"
This year’s Bioacademy held on 24th – 26th June 2009, at the end of the Czech Presidency of the EU, reacted, to the economic crisis and environmental change currently taking place.

Organic Farming Year Book 2008
9.12. 2008 - The number of organic farmers increased by 448 in the first half of 2008, which means that, as at 30 June 2008, there were atotal of 1,766 organic farms in the Czech Republic.The share of organically farmed land area was approximately 7.84 % of total agricultural land. The new ORGANIC FARMING YEAR BOOK 2008 brings the most recent data and information about this sector.
The Year Book was prepared by Bioinstitut, o.p.s., in cooperation with the PRO-BIO LEAGUE and published by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic in December 2008.
Norwegian - Czech research project focusing on legume-cereal intercropping
1.12.2008 - Bioinstitut has started a new research project "Utilizing legume-cereal intercropping to increase self-sufficiency with animal fodder and maintain soil quality on organic farms in the Czech Republic", which is supported by the Financial Mechanisms of the European Economic Area and Norway (FMs EEA/Norway) with a contribution from the Czech state budget intermediated by the National Training Fund. Partners in the project are the Norwegian Institute for Agricultural and Environmental Research - Bioforsk Organic, AGRITEC, Research, Breeding & Services, Ltd. and the Institute of Regional and Business Economics (MZLU Brno).
8th EUROPEAN SUMMER ACADEMY ON ORGANIC FARMING - BIOACADEMY
5th of September 2008, Lednice CZ
“New Developments in Science and Research on Organic Farming” was the main topic of Bioacademy 2008. The perception of organic farming has shifted from the position of view of edge sector to that of potential leader in sustainable development farming as well as the cause of low organic food production. The inherent danger in the coexistence of organic farming and GMO was called highlighted.
At the 1st Scientific conference, which was a part of Bioacademy for the firts time this year. Many European research institutions represented the latest outcomes of their research projects.

Year book of organic farming 2007 
In cooperation with the PRO-BIO Association, Bioinstitut, o.p.s. has compiled the National Report on the State of Organic Farming in the Czech Republic (CR) or the so-called Country Report 2007. This report serves to inform the public about the latest developments in the field of organic farming in the CR. At the time of compilation most of the available statistical data was for 2007.
Organic Farmers for Nature
Seminar 4.-5. 2. 2008 in SLUNÁKOV ecological centre (11.2.2008)
Within the project "Organic Farmers for Nature", a 2-day seminar was organised and 52 participants and 9 speakers took part in this pleasant event. Our colleagues from Bioforsk (Norway) came to share their experience with us. Main topics of the seminar were "Functional Biodiversity" and "Biodynamic Farming".
